Swifties…
My children are Swifties…followers of the singer, poet and entrepreneur Taylor Swift!
Luck shone on me when I secured tickets to her concert and my children’s dreams came true. Off for our Wembley bound weekend we discovered a hotel tucked away in a bustling area of Aldgate East.
What a find…The Corner Hotel. For someone like me, who celebrates all things used before, this hotel shows how to reuse items in unique ways. Sustainability isn’t their buzzword, it’s their way of doing things and they proudly take the title of ‘The greenest hotel in London’.
In our very quirky bathroom, there was a sign,
“Saving the world one towel at a time’
I cynically found this amusing and stretched the truth?? Also, I love the luxury of a fresh towel every day when staying in a hotel, it’s one of my holiday treats!
Throughout our stay in London, this sign sat in my thoughts. The hotel has 183 rooms, if each room had 2 towels that is 366 towels a day they use. At 20 towels per wash load that’s 18 washing cycles a day. Multiply that by more days, more hotels in London, more hotels in the UK, etc etc. How much water, energy, detergent and staff time do those towels alone take?
My initial cynicism soon turned into knowing that doing something, however small, is better than doing nothing. I reused the towel that day, I saved the world one towel at a time.
So, Sewn Again is born. My mission…to save the world one bag at a time.
My thanks to The Corner Hotel & Taylor Swift for a truly fabulous trip and for the start of what is everything to come for Sewn Again.
